Xe is a very simple X windows editor, implemented as a wish script. It was developed to have very simple ergonomics, including

use of button panel instead of menubar
popup (but persistent) unix-style text-filtering options
simple interaction with the current X selection
easy customizability via impromptu tcl scripts
readonly/pipefitting mode (xd) and directory browser (xls) extensions

It'll never replace emacs, but it suits me, and is a very portable, flexible, and lightweight X editor. Especially useful IMHO are the ability to glue X selections and unix pipes together.
